When we accidentally cut ourselves, doesn’t it feel like we have bad luck? We accidentally rub against the wound causing more pain. Ouch! I’ve learned to apply diluted vinegar on cuts, the burn feels awful, but it is equally necessary for healing. Since vinegar has acetic acid, its antiseptic properties are essential for the prevention of infections. So, what does vinegar have to do with how to deal with bitterness in our relationships?
Well, it is the same feeling in our hearts. Every offense or rejection from other people feels like pouring vinegar on an open wound. It burns, it stings, and it hurts!
If we are not careful, that hurt can quickly take root in our hearts in the form of bitterness–infecting our relationships.
The bad part is that we nurse bitterness thinking we are holding something over someone else, but in reality, it’s like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die.
The antidote to bitterness
- Practice thankfulness
- “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.” —Philippians 4:6
- Encouragement
- ” Therefore encourage one another and build each other up.” — 1 Thessalonians 5:11
- Forgiveness
- “Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.” Colossians 3:13
Are you feeling the pain of bitterness? Does it feel like you’ve hardened your heart so that it doesn’t hurt?

What usually ends up happening is that disappointment and pain lead to pride rather than falling to our knees before God.
I am here to tell you that he is not a God of resignation but RESURRECTION and that we should not give up on our family. We don’t have to let pride separate us from our spouse, children, or loved ones any longer!
God is present to help. What we should do is pray for God to heal our hearts. Always staying active in prayer until God finishes the job. You are not alone, feel free to send me a message. I would love the opportunity to pray for your family.
♥ Blessings!
